About
Puky Henicke is a dreamer. A painter born and based in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, she has made reinvention a way of life: a woman, a mother, a grandmother and, above all, a lover of art and self-expression.
Her work grows out of the courtyard, out of memory and the color of her land. On her canvases the intimate and the overflowing live side by side: the childhood home, the rivers of the east, the women who inhabit her.
Painting, for her, is not a trade but a way of saying what words cannot reach. Every canvas is an open letter.
She began painting as a child, in the courtyard of the family home, copying the flowers her mother grew. Life took her down other roads: work, children, the years a woman gives to others. Art stayed waiting.
She returned to the canvas when she understood that reinvention has no age. Since then she paints every day in her studio in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, and every canvas recovers something that had been put away: childhood, the rivers, the women of her family.
